Netflix signs exclusive deal with CW to release full seasons eight days after finale
I have personally always been frustrated over how CWTV’s shows come to Netflix after months of the season finale.
For instance, being able to binge watch all of Arrow season 5 or The Flash season 2 in the summer would be a lot more convenient then having to wait till September. However, Netflix just struck a content licensing deal with CWTV, and with the renewed deal users will now be able to stream popular tv shows such as Jane the Virgin, The Vampire Diaries, iZombie, The 100, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Arrow, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Reign, and The Originals. The deal is also inclusive of the three new series No Tomorrow, Riverdale, and Frequency.
Netflix Chief Content Officer (CCO), Ted Sarandos explained in a statement that “Netflix members in the US love the great lineup of series from The CW, and we are thrilled to extend the relationship and bring those shows to our members exclusively now, just eight days after their season finales. This is a great step forward with a valued network partner to give fans exactly what they want, when and how they want it.”
This deal is truly awesome, as majority of college and high school students tend to watch CWTV, and many catch up during the summer. However, this is bad news for hulu subscribers as this deal could potentially ruin hulu’s renewal deal. As the exclusive deal excludes hulu, leading to hulu having to find its own exclusive deals.
