Another post about Facebook and its exponential growth in the video business. Yes, that is correct, after Instagram announced it’s new Topic and Interest based video channels today, Facebook also released an announcement at VidCon in Anaheim, CA.

Facebook is teaming up with MSQRD, an app made by Facebook’s March acquire Masquerade. Users will be able to use the MSQRD app to access Facebook Live video and simultaneously have snapchat-like filters. How interesting to see Facebook invest $60 million to promote live video, giving competition to YouTube and now with MSQRD waging a war against Snapchat. And if history is any evidence, Facebook is not a fan of Snapchat (As it denied Facebook’s acquisition offer).

The feature will initially be available to verified pages and later be widely distributed. Facebook also announced other features.

Friends can be invited to drop in on Live sessions. “There are tons of new possibilities with this format: interviews, debates, duets, collaborations, and more,” Facebook representative said. You will also be able to schedule a broadcast and use Facebook’s lobby feature to allow users to hangout before you come live.
